Re Post: Can FriendFeed Help the Arts Community?

My organization, jerseyarts.com, is a nonprofit program cosponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and ArtsPride NJ. Our mission is generally to increase the awareness and participation in the arts in NJ, more specifically to make it easier for the field to get their message to the people of NJ.

I just got hired as the Marketing and Communication Associate mostly I think because of my history of following the nptech conversation over the years and trying my best to stay ahead of the curve. Alas, I feel as if I am falling behind. The internet age seemingly makes young people old before their time.

Could Friendfeed and Tagging Help the Arts Community?

It seems like the internet is evolving to match it's ever growing potential as a processor of knowledge, opinion, information all tailored to the individual. And it seems the the way to do all this is by aggregating feeds. I'm a web designer of sorts and wish sometimes there was a Karin feed that would tell people everything I was accomplishing online. But alas, that is harder than it sounds. But Friendfeed comes close for sure.

But, enough about me, lets talk about my cause. My question is this, we have a lot of content in our organization's calendar and changing content online. We use facebook and flickr and will be using youtube. We also are thinking about a blog page. Is friend feed the answer? Could it be?

New Job (Again) - Even More Opportunities

Hi all, yet again I have changed jobs, but never forgotten Net Squared in my many moves to different organizations. I'm now at Discover Jersey Arts, a cosponsored program of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and ArtsPrideNJ. It is a great organization, ready for the social web revolution (finally I'm at a job where they are prepared for this stuff and actually want to integrate these tools into their campaigns!) I'm happy as a kid in a candy store!

The Little House

The Little House, is a community hall that myself and others have been working on, over the last few years to provide a space for artists and community groups we work from an old school hall in Hounslow West London, we provide muti-media equipment to community groups and provide space for bands to rehearse and play as well as record, for the bands they need this space so they can develop and learn how to use a studio before they go and use and pay money for studio time. Community groups need the  space for thier projects and with most do not allways have the funds to pay for space, so we try to do as much as we can for them.

Amateur photogs extend NPOs' reach on flickr

As I've been (mentally) exploring the many ways for my NPO to effectively use social media tools, I've also been paying close attention to what others are doing. A great example of a non-profit on Flickr came up just the other day, when Houston's Opera in the Heights extended an invitation for local amateur photographers to a photo shoot for its upcoming production of Madama Butterfly.
