How to Add Cuil to your Firefox Search

I took a shot at Cuil earlier, but one thing I noticed was that they didn’t have a Search Engine plugin for Firefox yet! So - I added a button to my Custom Search Engine Firefox Thingy so that you could just click the button and Cuil would be added!

Cuil, the Cool Search Engine… Oops

I was trying out Cuil today, the new search engine, and I was going to add it to my list of search engines available in Firefox. However, they didn’t have a pre-made add-on ready so I was going to contact them and advise it.

That’s when it happened… the Cuil couldn’t find it’s own Contact Page. Oh, the terrible irony.

Firefox 3 and Messed Up Shortcut Favicons

I’ve been watching this happen since the beta, yet haven’t yet been excited enough about it to actually log it as a bug (or even see if it’s already known). But I am curious to see how many other people have noticed the same thing.

Firefox 3 appears to “lose” track of the favicons associated with my Bookmarks toolbar.

Here’s a screen shot that should help illustrate:

Wordpress Image Uploader Challenge

Hmm… When using WordPress 2.5.2’s media uploads I can upload images from Firefox 3 when running Vista. But I can’t when running FF3 from Ubuntu. Last I checked they’re running the same extensions.

No luck from Opera/Linux either. With either case, I end up with an HTTP error.

Guess I have some research to do. Switching to Linux without Windows Live Writer is hard enough, but if I can’t upload images with the built-in editor it’ll sure get harder!

Facelifts for Gmail and Google Calendar

There are quite a few different ways to get new looks for the plain old (blah) Gmail and Google Calendar pages. Not that blah is all bad, mind you. But sometimes it is nice to mix things up a bit, and that’s just what I’ve done on my home computer this holiday weekend.

For consistency’s sake, I’ve chosen styles that are both from the same designer(s) (Globex Designs). While darker than what I normally would go for, the change has been refreshing. For instance, here’s the new loading screen:

Continuing to Enjoy Ubuntu

For the past week I’ve been using Ubuntu (via the Install Inside Windows option) almost full-time on my home machine. I’m digging it so far and am thinking I’ll re-install it as dual-boot to get a bit more performance (although it really runs quite well as the Windows Install as a perk of being on a Raptor hard drive).

I’ve had a few challenges along the way, but nothing too awful yet.

Twitter for Support?

Earlier today I was wrestling with trying to use LogMeIn from my Ubuntu install to remotely manage a machine at work. No matter how I went about it, I couldn’t get things working from Firefox 3.

Eventually I whined on Twitter, because that’s how I (sometimes) roll:

Normalmente cuando tenemos más de una cuenta en algún servicio, no podemos abrir dos o más de esas cuentas al mismo tiempo por la forma en que esas cuentas guardan la información en el cache del browser.

Google & Firefox considers NDTV domain a big threat

NDTV Movies is a website by NDTV.com, India’s first and largest private producer of news, current affairs and entertainment television. You can guess what NDTV Movies is about by the name, right.

But here is something interesting…

If you type in and access www.ndtvmovies.com in Firefox (I guess Firefox 3), you get this message -
