Just in case you hadn’t seen this yet…

Get CodeWeavers‘ CrossOver (both Pro and Games versions) free today (October 28, 2008) only. This is software that allows you to run Windows apps on Linux and Macs. Yep, it is based on wine, but manages to take things to another level for compatibility and ease.

I’ve used their stuff in the past to play Windows games (in particular, Everquest years ago) under Linux and found it very impressive.

I like Skype.  Say it with me..."I like Skype."  Now, I don't want to seem too much a pusher of Skype, but I have to say, I'm impressed with this business model (along with Netflix, they're the best 21st century biz models I've experienced.)

Free is a very provocative word. It challenges you not to miss the opportunity. If it describes something of value, then the immediate reflex is to ask, Where’s the catch? Laptops are clearly something of value, so free laptops are certainly not to be missed. However as Microsoft found out in 2006, even with the help of top publicity experts like Edelman, those offering free laptops can run into problems.
