Girls’ education goes beyond getting girls into school. It also about ensuring girl learn and feel safe. At same time, in school, they have opportunity to complete all level of education, acquire knowledge and skill to compete in labor market, gain socio-emotional and life skill necessary navigate and adapt changing world, make decision about their own live, and contribute their community and world.

In South Sudan, for example, most children in home and community will speak their mother tongue and often associate language close to their mother tongue or widely spoken. But after first few year in primary school, language of instruction change to English. It create significant discontinuity between two force – school as an institution, home and community – impacting teacher and pupil most.
For children from family and community who rarely hear English and never speak more than few word, this discontinuity put them at an impossible disadvantage. If pupil cannot understand lesson – whether Maths, English, Sciences, etc. – it is no surprise that no learning is happening. It leads to early dropout from school, and cycle of poverty, ignorance, and disease that has in development for so long continue into next generation.
