Greeting Cards: For our three-month wedding anniversary, we had a small Christmas party for our wedding party. I made a series of invitations using black and gold washi tape under a triangular tree that swings to the side to reveal all the details. These work great invitations but would be just as good as Christmas cards. And if you love making cards, you should also check out the last-minute greeting holiday  cards I made last year.

I made them with materials I had lying around. We have a lot of watercolour paper left over after making a million paper flowers. My cards are 3 1/2 x 5 inches and fit in the extra envelopes on our reply cards, but they’re easy to make any size you want.

Table of Contents

What do you need:

  1. Cardboard or thick paper
  2. A Xacto, cutting mat and ruler
  3. pencil
  4. ruler
  5. washi tape
  6. 5mm nail

That is how:

  1. Cut the paper to size; mine is 3 1/2 x 5 inches. You need to cut two rectangles per card.
  2. Use a pencil to mark the center on the shorter edge of each rectangle.
  3. Align your straight edge from the center mark in the bottom left corner.
  4. Cut!
  5. Repeat for the right side of the triangle.
  6. You now have a triangle and a rectangle, the front and inside of your card.
  7. Set your triangle aside. Align your first strip of washi tape with the center mark and bottom corner.
  8. Add two more strips of tape to cover the paper up to the top corner. Make sure to line up any stripes or patterns on the video to look professional.
  9. Flip the rectangle over and cut off the excess tape.
  10. Repeat steps 7 through 9 for the other side.
  11. You now have a dressed rectangle and a nice triangle.
  12. Place the triangle on top of the rectangle so that the triangle is precisely on top of the blank paper triangle inside the rectangle. Use the Xacto knife to cut a hole near the top of the triangle through both pieces of paper simultaneously. The hole should be big enough for Brad’s legs.
  13. Pass the nail through the hole in the triangle.
  14. Then drive the nail through the hole in the rectangle.
  15. Flip the card over and place the nail.
  16. It’s an accurate map now!
  17. Write your greeting in the triangle and put well wishes for the holidays inside. Or, if you’re making invitations, list your party details. If you have a reliable printer, you can print your text on cardstock and cut it out. The cover of this card would look super cute, with a greeting stamped with letters from a stamp set.
